Last night the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra performed a full set of tunes written by Andreas Schaerer for his jazz group Hildegard Lernt Fliegen and orchestra (us)! This project was a huge contrast to the repertoire of the past few weeks. It was actually really refreshing –we’re just grooving, playing, and dancing in the back!
Noè and I appeared as typewriter soloists in the front of the orchestra, on either side of conductor Mariano Chiacchiarini. Our parts weren’t very hard, but they were slightly theatrical as Andreas has instructed us to be rigid and full of intent as we type.
I’ve spoken a bit with most of the band members, and they all met during their studies in the Jazz program at Bern University. They all have other projects, but Hildegard is the one they spend the most time with as they’ve recently been touring France, Switzerland, and Germany. I’ve had a great time playing with them, and excited that I might be performing with them again in Bern in October.
Thanks LUCERNE FESTIVAL for connecting me to these musicians! 🙂
